High School Design Studio: 5 Sites + 5 Works

From his Oak Park Home and Studio (1889/1898) to his Prairie style masterpiece, the Robie House (1910), Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings to enrich and inspire the lives of those who lived and worked in them.

This summer let Wright’s visionary architecture inspire you. Join other young artists and designers for a unique experience as you create and exhibit your own artwork inspired by Wright’s vision. Visit 5 historic Wright sites in the Chicago area and create work onsite in 5 hours in response to your experience of Wright’s design. Professional artists and designers will be present at each site to mentor participants.

With the five projects complete, participants will collaborate and curate a public exhibition at Co-Prosperity Sphere Cultural Center in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood. Develop your own artist’s statement about your work and experience, and consider sequence, layout, and interpretation of the exhibit. Work will be on public view for a week, with an opening reception for family and friends.

High school artists interested in all mediums and art forms, as well as those interested in developing a professional artist portfolio, are encouraged to participate. Due to the historic nature of our sites, supply and material restrictions may apply at different locations.

Applicants must be at least 15 years old. This program is recommended for ages 16-19.

A total of 12 participants will be selected and notified by May 15, 2019. Participants will be divided into two different sections, a Tuesday group and a Wednesday group. Each week, participants are required to meet at a different site based on their section with a brownbag lunch.
