Witness the emergence of Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision for his masterpiece, the Frederick C. Robie House, with an in-depth tour of the building as it undergoes a comprehensive restoration. Enjoy light refreshments before a preservation architect leads you through the house and into areas undergoing restoration during this evening tour. A souvenir Frank Lloyd Wright Trust hard hat is included with each ticket.
The Robie House interior is being restored to Wright’s original vision when the building was completed in 1910. The recent return of Wright’s signature inglenook to the living room marks a key point in the transformation of the Robie House. Other work includes plaster and coloration of walls and ceilings, woodwork and floor treatments, light fixtures and selected leaded glass windows and doors. Rooms being treated include the main entry hall and stairway; billiard room and children’s playroom on the ground floor; and the living room, dining room and guest bedroom on the main floor. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see how historic preservation works.
