The Ohara School Chicago Chapter will display ikebana arrangements in the Home and Studio on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11. Tours of the Home and Studio will proceed as usual, with a special display in the Playroom to see an organic art form that inspired Frank Lloyd Wright. See some of books from Wright’s personal collection about ikebana and woodblock print engraving techniques on view next to the ikebana arrangements for an expanded look at how art and nature can inspire beautiful forms.
In the courtyard outside before or after the tour, visitors can engage with Ohara School members, who can answer questions and demonstrate some of the arrangement principles informally. For an in-depth demonstration of ikebana arrangement techniques, make sure to attend the live demonstration by Ohara School sensei on Thursday, October 8 at the Nineteenth Century Club at 6 pm.
Visitors can get inspired by these displays and make their own sketches and monoprints with the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust education department on Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In our backyard area.
The Ohara School Chicago Chapter sensei have years of experience in practicing, teaching, and demonstrating ikebana throughout Chicagoland, including presentations at the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Morton Arboretum. They will present the signature styles from Ohara School of Ikebana, which celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2025. The School has 160 chapters in Japan, and 57 chapters outside Japan. Worldwide, there are nearly 130,000 Ohara teachers and over one million students/practitioners.
The Ohara School sensei and speakers are the first Artist Residency at the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, funded by Museums in America grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
