Guests who would like to arrange accommodations for their visit should contact Guest Services at 312.994.4000 prior to the day of their visit. Groups should discuss accommodations with the Group Tours office at 312.994.4041 when scheduling their visit.
Wheelchair Access
Home and Studio
- The Museum Shop and restrooms are accessible.
- The Studio, including the drafting room, octagonal library, Wright’s office, the reception area and the exterior, is accessible to standard-size wheelchairs. The Trust has one standard-size wheelchair available for guests at the Home and Studio.
- The Home is not accessible to wheelchairs of any size as all entries to the Home have stairs.
- The Studio balcony is not accessible to wheelchairs. It is only accessible by a steep, narrow stairway.
- Guests in wheelchairs may request to view the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio video.
Oak Park Historic Neighborhood Walking Tour
- The Historic Neighborhood Walking Tour is 100% accessible to guests who use wheelchairs. This tour travels at a self-guided pace via accessible public sidewalks and is about .75 miles.
Robie House
- The Museum Shop and restrooms are accessible.
- The exterior and ground floor of the Robie House are accessible to guests in wheelchairs.
- The second floor, which includes the living room, dining room and kitchen, is not wheelchair accessible.
- The Trust has one standard-size wheelchair available at the Robie House.
The Rookery Building
- The Rookery Building, the Museum Shop and all tours are accessible to guests in wheelchairs. Standard elevators are available for all guests who wish to travel to higher floors without using the stairs.
Unity Temple
- Unity Temple’s accessible entry via a ramp is located on the east side of the building.
- Exterior, entry hall, and main floor of Unity House are accessible. The main floor of the sanctuary is accessible with the use of a seated stair lift.
Walkers
- Walkers are permitted in all venues. All walkers will be inspected to ensure they will not damage the floors. The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust has walkers with built-in seats available on a first-come first-served basis.
Home and Studio
- To reach the front door of the Home, guests will need to climb 5 stairs. Once inside the house, to reach the second floor, guests must walk up and then back down a narrow flight of 19 stairs.
- The Studio is accessible via a ramp.
- The Studio balcony is only accessible by a steep, narrow stairway.
Robie House
- To get to the second floor of the Robie House, guests need to walk up a flight of 20 stairs.
- To get to the third floor of the Robie House, guests need to walk up a flight of 17 stairs.
Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- American Sign Language interpretation may be available for guided tours. Please contact Guest Relations at 312.994.4000 or email to info@flwright.org two weeks in advance to request a signed interpretation.
- Typed tour scripts, in English, with detailed descriptions are available upon request for the Home and Studio, Unity Temple, The Rookery, Bach House and Robie House tours.
- Upon request, the tour guide and the deaf or hard of hearing guest also receive writing pads and pencils to ask and answer questions.
Blind or Low Vision
- Certified service animals are permitted on tours.
- Small reproductions of original items displayed in the rooms can be brought out on special request for guests to touch and add to their experience.
- If a guest who is blind or has low vision wishes to bring someone to assist them on the tour, the person providing assistance will not be charged admission.
Accessible Education Programs
The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is committed to ensuring access to education program participants of diverse abilities and needs. Please discuss your needs when you register for a program or email educate@flwright.org to make arrangements.
- For tickets purchased online or over the phone, guests must check-in at the Museum Shop before joining their tour. Guests will not be allowed to join a tour without checking-in first. We recommend arriving to the Museum Shop no later than 15 minutes before the start time of your tour or event.
- Late arrivals will join their specified tour or event in progress.
- Ticket purchases or reservations entitle the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust to unrestricted use of photographs taken by our staff or agents during your visit, without subject consent.
- Tickets are not refundable or exchangeable.
Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is pleased to permit still photography on our tours at all of our sites.
Photography Guidelines
- Please be courteous to the other guests. Stay together with your tour group as it moves from room to room. Lingering behind will delay the tour and is not permitted.
- To provide you and your fellow guests with the best tour experience, guests are encouraged to take photographs while the tour guide is speaking.
- Video and audio recording is strictly prohibited.
- To protect our museum collections, selfie sticks, tripods, and other additional equipment are not permitted.
- Photography on all Trust tours is intended for personal use. Requests for commercial use must be directed in writing to the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust’s Communications Department.
- The Trust reserves the right at its sole discretion to withhold or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises.

Take I-290 West. Exit at Harlem Avenue. Turn right (north), and drive 1.5 miles to Chicago Avenue. Turn right (east) on Chicago Avenue. The Home and Studio is 3 blocks east on the right side of the street.
Public Transportation
From downtown Chicago (CTA)
Take westbound Green Line L train to the Oak Park stop. Walk under tracks and go north 5 blocks on Oak Park Avenue to Chicago Avenue. Turn left (west) and walk 3 blocks to the Home and Studio. 15-20 minute walk. Trains run approximately every twenty minutes.
From downtown Chicago (Metra)
Board Union Pacific West Line train at Metra Station (Clinton & Madison Streets). Exit at Oak Park stop. Walk north 5 blocks on Marion Street to Chicago Avenue. Turn right and walk one block to the Home and Studio. 15-20 minute walk. Check the train schedule.

Take Lake Shore Drive (US 41) south to the 53rd Street exit. Proceed on 53rd Street to Woodlawn Avenue and turn left. The Robie House is located at the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and 58th Street.

Take #6 Jackson Park Express bus from the northwest corner of State and Lake Streets, or any of the following intersections with State Street: Washington, Monroe, Jackson, Van Buren, Wabash, Congress, Harrison. Exit the bus at Stony Island Avenue and 57th Street. Walk six blocks west on 57th Street to Woodlawn Avenue. Turn south (left) on Woodlawn and walk one block to the Robie House. Alternatives are the #2 Hyde Park Express (weekday morning and evening rush hours only) and #X28 Stony Island Express.
From downtown Chicago (Metra)
Take the University Park Line from Millennium Station. Exit train at 55th-56th-57th Street stop. Walk 5 blocks west to Woodlawn Avenue and turn left.

Street parking is available at metered parking spots. A public parking lot is located on the corner of Lake and Forest, 1 block west of Unity Temple.
