Wright met Reverend Jesse R. Ziegler, a Presbyterian minister, while abroad in Europe. The house Wright designed for him is a close derivation of his “Fireproof House for $5,000,” with the addition of a screen and piers to conceal the front entrance and porches off the living and dining rooms. The design was refined and constructed while Wright was in Italy. Marion Mahony and Herman von Holst may have been responsible for its execution. The house features an impressive program of copper- and zinc-camed windows and French doors. It is the only one of Wright’s designs that were built in Kentucky during the architect’s lifetime.
