Architect Bruce Goff from an early age admired Frank Lloyd Wright as a genius and mentor. More than thirty years younger than Wright, Goff described his first impression of Wright’s work, “It knocked me for a loop. I was dumbfounded…” Goff would dedicate his work to the “organic principle” defined by Wright, a modern architecture reflecting the order of nature. While Wright declared his respect for Goff’s creative talent, Goff would evolve in his own individual direction, winning recognition for his innovative and sometimes eccentric designs. Goff lived for a time in Chicago and participated in the 1977 conference at Wright’s Home and Studio with Wright scholars, Taliesin fellows, and Wright sons Lloyd and Eric.

Guest speaker Alison Fisher, Harold and Margot Schiff Curator of Architecture and Design, The Art Institute of Chicago, is the organizing co-curator of Bruce Goff: Material Worlds, the first major exhibition in thirty years to showcase the work of architect Bruce Goff (1904–1982). The exhibition features more than 200 of Goff's projects, reflecting the impressive scope of his career and continues at The Art Institute through March 29.

Fisher received her MA and PhD from Northwestern University. Her work has been recognized with awards from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and the Society of Architectural Historians.

Following her presentation, she will take questions from the audience in attendance.
